The Casting Process

18K/Platinum Engagement Ring Animation In the casting process, we begin with wax as our raw material. The individual elements are carved from the blank wax material. These wax models are then placed in a mold of plaster (called investment in the jewelry trade). When the wax has been burned out of the mold, it is filled with molten metal to form the parts of the jewelry item. These pieces are then sanded, fitted together and soldered into a final assembly. When the rough finishing is completed, any stones are set, and then the piece receives a final finishing, polishing and cleaning. This animation shows the stages in carving a wax model, assembly, setting and finishing a Diamond engagement ring in 18K yellow gold and platinum.
